Director of Engineering

GPS Source, Inc., a US Veteran Owned Small Business located in southern Colorado is seeking a talented, skilled, energetic and ambitious Sr. Electrical Engineer with excellent leadership skills to lead a development team in the design of GPS and communications related products. 

The Director of Engineering will report to the executive management team, and will be responsible for providing technical and program leadership to a staff of highly skilled Systems Engineers, RF Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Software Engineers, and Industrialization Engineers in executing the corporate product development strategy.  The Director of Engineer will lead the design teams, applying detailed engineering knowledge and experience to manage the team through the entire product development cycle, including systems analysis and design, through circuit board hardware and embedded software development, to product industrialization, all in compliance with product requirements. 

The Director of Engineering will ensure adherence to the corporate AS9100 certified design quality processes, ensuring the proper generation and management of design documentation, supporting the design through the entire NPI process.  Furthermore, the Director of Engineer will direct the development and execution of verification, qualification, and acceptance test plans consistent with standard quality process. 

The Director of Engineering will provide the described leadership and direction while creating and maintaining a positive, enjoyable, highly motivated team environment with a focus on maintaining project schedule and budget.

Technical Requirements:

  • Possess detailed knowledge of electronic systems design and analysis
  • Knowledge of RF System and Circuit Design/Analysis  a strong plus
  • Possess detailed knowledge of electronic circuit board level design and circuit analysis
  • Possess detailed knowledge of circuit board design techniques
  • Detailed knowledge of PCB design tools
  • Possess detailed knowledge of system verification, qualification, and acceptance testing techniques and requirements
  • Possess knowledge on the operation of electronic system test & verification equipment
  • Possess knowledge of product manufacturing process and procedures
  • Possess detailed knowledge of design documentation configuration management processes
  • Ability and desire to support limited technical interface with customer
  • Ability & desire to mentor Jr. RF Engineers
  • Knowledge of standard quality processes

Responsibilities:

  • Provide design and program leadership to development teams
  • Mentor Jr. engineers in design knowledge and technique
  • Develop project plans, including project resource plans, schedules and budgets
  • Secure adequate design and development tools for project teams (e.g. training, SW tools, test equipment, etc.)
  • Perform design activities as required
  • Review, direct, and approve technical solutions applied to project designs
  • Ensure adherence to corporate development and documentation processes
  • Report organizational and project status to executive team

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, desired.
  • 10 Plus years of embedded software, circuit board level and systems design experience.
  • A working knowledge of engineering techniques as applied to large projects.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to build a positive and motivated working environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Digital Communications Systems Knowledge is a must.
  • Experience with aerospace systems is strongly preferred.
  • Global Satellite Navigation System (GNSS) knowledge is preferred.
