DAS refers to a network of antennas that enhances the range and capacity of cellular networks inside large facilities such as public venues (stadiums, malls, convention centers, etc.), hospitals, hotels, resorts, office buildings, universities, and manufacturing facilities. It also provides coverage outdoors, where network connectivity is low or traditional cell towers cannot provide it, such as roadways, parks, and oil refineries, among other under-served areas. DAS platforms redistribute the signal from a central location and do not have baseband technology integrated. They are being designed to support all mobile operators and all bands in a single system.
Whether small cell or DAS, a system needs to be engineered so that it can be monitored, and when necessary, have redundancy.
